10 Weeks..or so I thought

Finally the countdown to my first appointment is at T-0! Cody was able to take off of work to join me and share in the excitement, thankfully- because I was close to an anxiety attack in the exam room, why do they make you wait so long in there?!  Luckily Cody kept my mind off the ultrasound by talking aimlessly to me.

Once DR. Smith joined us for the appointment we went through all the health and family history questions {BORING}. The overall process of pregnancy, and what to expect at the remaining appointments.

Then it was time, we went into a different room where the ultrasound machine was and the nerves went into overload. What I was most afraid of, was that there was going to be nothing in there. That I was just making up everything in my head, the symptoms the hunger, the cravings. All just make-believe. So when Doctor Smith placed the Doppler on my belly and we were able to see the baby for the first time, it was magical! We could see the heart fluttering and the little arms and legs moving. Doctor Smith measured the baby’s heart rate and it was a normal 177 beats per minute, relief! But when Doctor Smith measured the baby itself we discovered that I was only 9 weeks preggo, not 10 as I had originally calculated. Doctor Smith said this was common, since I don’t know exactly when I ovulated or when the egg implanted. This revelation pushed my due date back 6 days to July 10th.

Doctor snapped a couple pictures for my file, a couple for us to take home and we were off to enjoy the rest of the day with a new outlook on life!

We have slowly been telling friends and coworkers the good news and are looking forward to the next 30.14 weeks… {OR} 211 days… {OR} 5,064 hours… But who’s counting.
