Three Weeks old and Pictures to Prove it!

Geeze how time flies! It has been so much fun watching Reagan develop her little personality and show us all her expressions. She is becoming quite the little "talker" and spends her alert time sharing her thoughts with me. Week 3 also marks Reagan's "upgrade" to size one diapers! At this rate she will fit in her cloth diapers in no time flat!

Two Weeks of Bliss

On Sunday our little family of three ventured out for a walk down by the river. It was a gorgeous morning and we wanted to enjoy the fresh air before the Summer sun heated up the Tri Cities.

Here is our babe ready to go!

It was a blast! Cody and I agreed to make this a weekly adventure, Reagan Loved the morning breeze on her face she would make all sorts of favorable expressions when it swept past her. The stroller rode GREAT! So smooth on the pavement, now if I could only watch out for bumps instead of watching her the whole time!

One Week Old

Reagan Grace,

Today you are one week old! We did it! You've have taught us so much already, I can't wait for the days, months, years to come. We have asked you to be patient with us as we learn, and you are giving us many tries to get things right. Thank you for that.

This week you had your first pediatrician visit, you have already gained 3 ounces since we left the hospital. You should be back to your birth weight in no time flat! You were such a good girl, and slept through the whole check up. Your doctor and nurse were very impressed with you.

We had our first social outing as a family of three! We went to a bar-b-que at the Wynne's house. I was so nervous, but you did amazing!

We have had some fun nights, lots of bouncing and swaying. But I have changed your feeding schedule and the past two nights you have slept like an angel! We get up every three hours to feed you, and you have sacked right back out afterwards. I am really enjoying the sleep!

You have taken to breastfeeding really well, and I have to say, it is a favorite part of my day. You are eating every two hours during the day and every 3 hours at night. I love hearing all your little sighs and grunts, seeing the funny faces you make and feeling your warm little body. You love to spend time doing skin to skin contact after you have finished, and I love to smell your sweet baby scent and rub your back. I hope that we have a long and successful nursing relationship.

You are so tiny, just barely filling out a Newborn size onesie. You go through LOTS of diapers! You love to give daddy and I a stinky right after we change you into a fresh diaper. You have also loved "free peeing" when we are giving you a sponge bath or changing your diaper. Keeping us on our toes, that's for sure!

Since you have been sleeping good at night, you have been very alert during the mornings and early afternoon. I love to watch your eyes as you take everything in. You like when daddy and I wear bright patterned shirts, your eyes dance across the fabric.

You and I spend lots of time in your nursery, we rock in the glider and love when I read to you. Today was the first day I put you in your crib for a nap, you usually nap and sleep in our bedside sleeper. I think you really liked the crib! You seem so tiny in it.

Daddy and I are very much looking forward to watching you grow and develop. We love you.

Reagan Grace has Arrived!

She’s here! Our baby girl joined us in the world at 2:55pm July 1st. It was the greatest day of my life. Everything went smoothly and couldn't have been planned any better if I had tried.

So here is the story of how Reagan Grace entered the world. (yes this is a post about my labor, if you don't care to know the deetsfeel free to sit this one out).

Sunday At 2:30 am I was taking my usually pee break in the middle of the night, mid pee I feel this gush. In my sleepy haze I thought maybe it was more of my plug coming out, I had been having this happen for a couple days now. So I excitedly hurry to turn on the light and look, yes I look, it’s like blowing your nose- everyone checks out the tissue after you blew a big one. As soon as I stood up, more gush. I thought 'what the what' flipped the light on and sat back down just in time for, yes, MORE gush! I was sorta scared for a second. It hadn't hit me. I bellow out to Cody, sound asleep. "Cooody?" it hit me. MY WATER BROKE! It took another "Cooooody...?" before he stumbled in the bathroom and I started laughing and proclaiming, "my water broke, YEAHhhh!" he jumped into the shower as I continued to leak fluid and soon after we were off to the hospital!

The crazy thing is, I've been having Braxton hick’s contractions quite a bit since mid may. But on Saturday I hadn't had any. Cody and I kept saying it was the calm before the storm. Sunday morning I had my first contraction t 3:10am on the way to the hospital. It was mild, and I was very excited! I'm sure the adrenaline helps suppress the pain, at least in the beginning. Once we got there, I was checked for dilation, still at 2 centimeters. Had been since my 38 week doctor’s appointment. Since my water had broken they couldn't send me home and admitted me to the hospital, I got all hooked up to the monitors and they told me that they would check me again at 6am and if I had made progress they would hold off on giving me pitocin (labor inducing drug). Cody and I tried to relax and sleep. But sleep was the last thing on our minds. We were about to have a baby.

6am rolls around, they check my dilation, I'm at 3 centimeters! Whoo hoo, the contractions I was having were strong enough to start the job, but not unbearably painful, just feeling crampy at this point. And furthermore, I dodged having to start pitocin. So Cody and I were left alone to rest, knowing that 8am was the next time I would be checked for progress.

8am rolls around and my doctor makes his first appearance. I was still at 3 centimeters, dang. Here comes the pitocin!

9:30 I get checked, reality checked. The pitocin kicked things up a notch! I like to think I have a decent tolerance for pain but hot dang these contractions were no joke. I was hanging around 4 centimeters when I ask for the epidural. Lucky for me the anesthesiologist was busy and I was third in I settle for a dose of fentanyl, high as a kite I was able to make it to 11:15 for my epidural.

Happy as a clam, I settle in for the ride thinking I had lots of time to relax and prepare myself mentally for baby Reagan's arrival.

At 12:20 I let my awesome labor and delivery nurse I was feeling a ton of pressure! Sure enough I was at 8centimeters and Reagan's head was in perfect position, just needed to move down a bit.

At 1:45 I was a full 10 centimeters!! My nurse had me do a couple practice pushes to see what kind of shape I was in. I gave it my all and she stopped me after 3 or 4 and gave me strict orders not to push because we needed to get doc in, it wouldn't be long now!

2:25 doctor Smith comes strolling in, asked if I wanted to have a baby, and had me start pushing! The first couple minutes were tough, it was hard for me to tell when I was having a contraction, so I relied on the help of the nurse and doctor. After a few, I got the hang of it and could feel the difference in the pressure when I was contracting. Cody was amazing. He counted me down, coached me and was an overall great birth partner.

30 minutes later we had ourselves a beautiful healthy baby girl. 2:55 was her official birth time. Weighing in at a whopping 7pounds 12 ounces and 19 inches long, she had lots of dark hair and daddy's toes. Cody cut the umbilical cord and we got to snuggle our girl. She quickly quieted down on my chest and stared at us through her blurry vision. It was very apparent that she knew our voices and just alertly enjoyed her first moments of life.

She was a trooper and nursed for an hour while Cody and I just watched her and loved on her.

The day was amazing. I was so happy that everything had gone well, it was all such a whirlwind experience. I'm so glad that I have these memories to look back.
