Butcher Day, A Family Affair

It's official, we are chicken farmers. We have completed the life cycle of cornish cross meat chickens, and I think we all are better for the experience.  Teaching our children where our food comes from is something that is very important to both Cody and I. We all now have so much more pride, respect and knowledge about the poultry we provide to our family.

We had 13 birds to butcher, 10 of which we left whole and three we separated into a bag of breasts and a bag of leg quarters. Of course we put the wings of all 13 birds into their own bag for hot wings this Fall.

It doesn't look like we'll be doing another round of meat chickens this Summer, but next Spring and Summer we hope to get a couple rounds in before Fall. Hopefully we will be able to raise a couple turkeys next year as well.

Stay tuned.
